Desperately need HELP! Silent Install, Multi-user, data folder in LocalService directory
In my case this issue was not resolved. Just incase anyone else is still seeing this you are not alone.
I opened a PMR and had several meetings with IBM. In my case this issue occurs even after the installation.
There is still no resolution. I have over 4000 machines that have/had this issue this at one point or another. As long as the first launching of the MUI Notes doesn't point to LocalService, this error can occur and not really impact the user. The Notes.Ini file gets moved to the LocalService directory and points to the users files.
Here are the details I sent IBM.
Problem:
The NLNotes.exe will change the HKCU\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0\NotesIniPath value dynamically depending on who logs into the system. This only appears to affects Multiuser installs, but IS NOT an installation error.
I feel I must be clear on this point. This is NOT an installation problem. I have personally verified that the registry value noted below has been changed weeks after the installation was successfully performed.
Specific Details:
Correct Value
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0
• "NotesIniPath"=" C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\notes.ini"
Incorrect Values:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0
• "NotesIniPath"="C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\notes.ini"
• "NotesIniPath"=" C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\notes.ini"
Once this error occurs it can trigger a wide variety of other (small) issues. This will impact the upgrade when this error occurs on the first launch of Lotus Notes 8.0.2. Currently this appears to happen in less than 1% of the initial Notes launches. If it happens on subsequent launches the redirection of the data directory is seamless to the customer. All custom data files (desktop*.ndk, names.nsf, *.ID, user.dic, journal.nsf) are staged in the "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data" directory.
